Give back

Why we give back

Acadia sees more than 4 million visits a year. All that traffic wears down trails and strains the small towns around the park. The groups below do the work that keeps this place healthy. If Mainehaus helps you enjoy it, consider giving them some of your time or money.

Friends of Acadia

Their volunteers help maintain Acadia's trails and carriage roads.

  • “More than 421 drop-in and service group volunteers donated a remarkable 4,608 hours to maintaining and improving Acadia's trails and carriage roads last year.” Source

Frenchman Bay Conservancy

They protect land around Frenchman Bay and care for public preserves including Tidal Falls, Taft Point, and Corea Heath.

  • More than 25,000 acres protected in 12 towns and townships. Source
  • More than 40 miles of trails. Source

Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary

They conserve land around Somes Pond, maintain trails there, and track the Somesville alewife run.

  • In 2025, 57,083 adult alewives were counted entering the Mill Pond, a multi-decade record. Source

Schoodic Institute

They run citizen science projects in Acadia, including the fall Hawk Watch.

  • Hawk Watch, now in its 31st season, is one of Acadia's longest-running citizen science projects. Source

Mainehaus has no official relationship with these organizations. We simply support groups that care for Down East Maine's lands and waters.
